Our lads fought hard last week to regain the
Southee/Palfreyman cup and the game was in the balance until the last quarter. A
couple of skill errors by us and good reading of the play by Hutchins saw them
run out winners by 25 points. Our Skipper led from the front and was well
supported by Blake, Will and Chiv down back. Vanders continually won in the
centre and as always Jed tackled well around the ground. The game probably sums
our season up as again we were close but not as clean as the opposition. We have
a lot of positives to work with. By keeping the group together and building on
the last part of the season gives us a lot of hope for 2022.

A slow start cost us again and
we were three goals down at quarter time. Outscoring Hutchins for the next three
quarters gives us a lot to lot forward to today when we front up against them in
the Second Semi. Bos had his best game for the season running off the wing and
Jimmy, Cappa and Albs solid in defence. Of note was Cappa's great goal in his
part in setting up the wall. We must start well today and give our forwards more
opporunities to kick a winning score and see us through to the Grand Final.

R13 Women :
Uni had lost 2 of their last 3 games and were looking to bounce back against
Brighton at Pontville. Whilst they might be sitting at the bottom of the table,
Brighton always give a strong account of themselves and are usually competitive
and hard at the ball.
The Uni mantra was to control what we could control, and so we went into the
game with a strong focus on our effort and energy, with a large dose of
determination. The
wind certainly picked up early and became a factor. That said, Uni’s ground
kicking was astray, but they made up for it with some quality handball movement
down the ground. Bec Boxall continues to grow in the ruck, and Leah Bartlett,
Madi Mulder and Olly Dove were busy around the ground. We also welcomed back Nat
Gartlan and Gabby Watson after some weeks out. Bonnie Grynglas continued her
purple patch of form in the middle, and Annie Lord and Em Philpott were tidy and
assured down back.
Unfortunately, after half time the game deteriorated as Brighton adopted an
overly physical and verbally abusive mindset, which was unnecessary and not in
the right spirit. This only steeled Uni’s resolve, and after an inspirational
address by Erin Chivers at three-quarter time, Uni shut the gate with a number
of strong goals to record a 61-point win.
The ever-improving Lauderdale await today in what should be another close
contest between these two young teams.
