First Rainbow Women's Team Takes to the Field
8th April 2018
Noon at the University oval witnessed the first women's team to wear the rainbow colours. Playing in the Southern Football League against the Lauderdale Bombers, history was made.
Coach Gerry O'Dea had the following to say about the first season.
Player gains to club with experience:
Eli Fornells Vernet, Amy Madsen, Issy
Ermacora, Ellie Kierath, Georgie Patrikopolous, Jemima Hutchins.
Key players to drive development of team:
Everyone.
University Rainbows
are in their inaugural season with a significant number of players who are new
to the game. There is great excitement at the club with the advent of the first
University Women’s team, and the players are training accordingly, determined to
make a strong statement this season. Numbers have been good for the last month,
with a largely skills-based training program designed to fast-track skill
development and introduce reliable ball movement. This season will be a steep
learning curve, but there is an optimistic feel from the players who are looking
forward to the challenge and in setting a strong foundation for the future.
The playing group have also adopted a strong set of Rainbow Standards,
to keep everyone focussed and on-task; both on and off the field this season.
