MATCH REPORT:
Women :01.07 (13)
db North Hobart Demons 05.02 (37)
Another
close loss for the Rainbow Women, this time at the hands of North Hobart. Once
again, we were prepared to match their effort and intensity, however they just
had more experience and bigger bodies when push came to shove. This was quite a
congested game, and as such we were arguably out-muscled. Our forte is run and
carry but we were denied this opportunity. I can’t complain about the attitude
of the Uni players – very positive, determined and resilient, but you can’t buy
experience and we will just have to keep working on our development to be able
to compete with these bigger, more experienced sides.
Our two
Southern Rep players, Sam Rose and Ruby Campbell had excellent games, but we
missed the power of Eli Fornells Vernet and Ellie Kierath. Sarah Ikin and Amy
Madsen continue to provide us with a decent engine room in the middle but we
struggled to convert scoring opportunities. In the last 2 weeks, we have only
scored 1.11, so must do better than this to be competitive. Other players to
impress against North Hobart were Hannah Steele and Mimi Refaei whilst Tessa
Brinsmead and McKenzie Archer had a decent crack.
We are
now at the halfway stage of the season and have 3 wins to our name. Considering
our youth and inexperience, this is a good result, and this team will only get
better, if we can withstand the annual mid-term break where we lose many
players. All in all, the glass is half full.
Vale Colin Bellchambers
Colin Bellchambers passed away on 9 June after another
brief fight with brain cancer. Col played 108 games with Uni from 1968 to 1973.
He was a member of the "Galliano’s" 1973 State Premiership team and in the same
year was a member of the Tasmanian State Amateur team. Col is sitting
first on the left on the front row.
A great bloke and an absolute gentleman he will be
greatly missed.
His funeral was held on
Friday 15th June in Cranbourne, Victoria.
Many familiar faces for those who have been associated with the club for some
time.
14 points down at the last break and some work to do
Slippery, but still a high-standard game.
Goal to Douglas gave Uni a sniff!
Wonderful touch by Livingston brought Uni very close
Alberry was in the right position to mark and kicked truly, giving Uni the
lead with only a minute to go.
Unfortunately Hutchins used the last minute to kick one of their own and
reclaimed the lead.
The usual sculls - another close one!

have his name on it. Thanks to everyone who organised the making of the board
