Richmond face up to University in the Seniors Preliminary Final at Queenborough. Richmond were considered a trifle unlucky in the second semi final but meet a University outfit coming off a hard fought first semi final win. Apart from Rodney Brumby Richmond’s forwards were quiet last week and they will need to come to play on Saturday as University’s defence led by John Mazey, Dan Bearman, Jamie Murfett and Paul Brooks are cool under pressure. Ben Cato was a springboard for attack running out of defence for Richmond while Heath Barwin, Adam Daft and Steven Dick link up well around the ground but face up to the in form Cameron Burgess, Alex Saunders, Jim Dunham and Matt Riseley. Chris Ross, Nathan Woolley, Jacob Dunn and Adam Baines lead a tight Richmond defence but will be tested by the high flying Alex Gilmour, Charles Jones, Josh Nelson and Charles Rae when resting off the ball. On ball clashes will play a large role in the game with Richmond’s Darren McGuinness, Jhy Wiggins, Adam Daft and Josh Woolley opposed to University’s Charles Rae, Sam Maguire, Craig Haremza and Alex Gilmour.
In the Reserves Preliminary Final St.Virgils meet DOSA at 11.30 am with the Senior game commencing at 2.00 pm.

Preview Semi Finals - Sep 05
Semi finals in both grades in the Old Scholars Football Association will be played at Richmond on Saturday with the first game commencing at 10.00am.
University clash with OHA in the Seniors first semi final. Key match ups should be University’s defenders Dan Bearman and John Mazey opposed to Sam Bowering and Stuart Probert while Josh Nelson and Michael Gowans will need to step up against OHA’s defenders Dan Ryan and Daniel Archer. Midfielders will also play a part with University’s Cameron Burgess, Alex Saunders and Jim Dunham against Scott McCallum, Joel Doyle and Ashley Banks while Charles Rae and Callum Garvey do battle in the ruck.
A super slash is anticipated between Richmond and St.Virgils in the Senior second semi final. Richmond having taken all before them of late will pose problems for St.Virgils with onballers Adam Daft, Jhy Wiggins and Adam Baines plus defenders Ben Cato, Walter Dowling and centreman Steven Dick creating numerous chances for forward Chris Crossin, Aaron Reeve, Rod Brumby and Scott Boxall. St.Virgils have enjoyed a good year and with one win apiece in roster games and strong leadership from Sam Unsworth, Damien Hill, Jason Frawley, Nick Davey and Brad Hastie plus Zac Batchelor, Patrick Midson and Mark Beck in defence and Michael Grandin and Matthew Parker.
In the Reserves St.Virgils meet Hutchins and DOSA play University.
Review Semi Finals - Sep 05
A football feast of semi finals was witnessed in front of a large crowd at Richmond In the second semi final between Richmond and St.Virgils both teams broke even early with Richmond’s accuracy on goal allowing them a 9 point lead at half time. St.Virgils came out full of running in the third quarter and kicked 8 goals to 3 and opened up a 22 point going into the final quarter but Richmond fought back to tie the scores however St.Virgils Josh Nibbs marked just before the siren sounded and kicked truly to give his team a 6 point victory. Defenders Jay Nibbs, Jason Frawley, Zac Batchelor and Patrick Midson, ruckman Scott Dickson and forward Brad Hastie were best for St.Virgils while Richmond’s best were linkmen Adam Daft and Heath Barwin, forward Rod Brumby and defenders Chris Ross, Josh Woolley and Nathan Woolley.
University led by Alex Gilmour, Jim Dunham and Craig Haremza outplayed an inaccurate OHA to win the first semi final by 40 points. University had all the answers even though both teams had the same amount of scoring shots. Josh Nelson, Paul Brooks and Matthew Gill were other stand out performers for University while for OHA Ashley Banks, Scott McCallum, Aaron Limbrick, Brendan Rogers, Jason Marsland and Trent Moore were their best.
In the Reserves Hutchins defeated St.Virgils to book a Grand Final berth and DOSA proved too strong for University and moved into the Preliminary Final next week.
Preview Round 21 - Aug 29
The final round of roster games gives the teams tasting finals action the chance to fine tune their skills. Richmond host DOSA and have carried all before them since round eleven in a team effort led by onballers Adam Daft, Ben Cato, and Steven Dick complimented by forwards Rod Brumby and Chris Crossin while Walter Dowling heads a mean defence. DOSA have had a mixed season but have blooded some exciting new players aided by the experienced Cameron Golding, James Penwright, Kim Harvey and Nathan Abrahams.
Channel are home to St.Virgils in their final game for 2009 and have impressed everyone in their first season and while failing to win a game they have unearthed some exciting players namely Jarrod Mason, Kyle Shaw, Brad Sculthorpe, Richard Leaman and Adam Sharp. St.Virgils have enjoyed a successful season with winning the premiership their aim led by Michael Grandin, Matthew Parker, Zac Batchelor, Jay Nibbs and Mark Beck.
OHA prepare for the finals with a clash with Hutchins. OHA have had an inconsistent season with serious injuries not helping but Dan Ryan, Brendan Rogers, Brad Marsland, Luke Taylor and Callum Garvey are in good form. Hutchins have the potential to be a threat next year while Nick Leitch, Tom Gibson, Jason Nichols, Michael Walsh and Scott Nichols have been dominant throughout.
Review Round 21 - Aug 29
Richmond, St.Virgils and OHA registered comfortable wins in the lead up to their finals campaign commencing next Saturday in the Old Scholars Football Association.
Richmond had all the answers against DOSA and with Adam Daft, Andrew Haines and Steven Dick supplying plenty of quality ball to their forwards led by Aaron Reeve, Chris Crossin and Scott Boxall they ran riot with the game in control at half time leading by 69 points which eventually blew out to 133 points at the final siren with DOSA unable to contain the home team although Ivan Ransley, Nathan Abrahams, Kim Harvey, Pat Carroll, Aaron Davey and Brady Pearton stood tall.
St.Virgils shrugged off a determined Channel at Snug Park with a 7 goal opening term which set up the visitors win via with quick ball movement and accurate finishing with Scott Quinn, Josh Nibbs, Matthew Parker and Sam Unsworth stand out players. Channel found it tough going but fought the game out through Jarrod Mason, Jamey Webster, Nick Butler and Adam Sharp.
OHA were too strong for Hutchins winning by 67 points and restricting the visitors to one goal for the game with Brendan Rogers dominant for the home team supported by Matthew Zukauskas, Brad Marsland and Ben Langford. Hutchins struggled throughout but led by onballers Scott Nichols, Nick Leitch and Jamie Harriss and defender Alistair Sayers they never gave in.
Preview Round 20 - Aug 22
The three way battle for first and second spots on the premiership ladder continues on Saturday in the Old Scholars Football Association.
University host Channel and are expected to win that game but with a bye in the last round may finish third depending on the outcomes of the last two rounds involving both Richmond and St.Virgils.
Led by playmakers Cameron Burgess, Josh Nelson and Jim Dunham plus Alex Saunders University will be too powerful for Channel who have Kyle Shaw, Jarrod Mason, Mark Clark and Brad Sculthorpe playing well.
Hutchins will need to be at their best when they face up to form team Richmond but have played some exciting football this season from the likes of Nick Leith, Michael Walsh, Tom Gibson and Tom Friend. On the other hand Richmond have taken all before them since round eleven led by Adam Daft, Adam Baines, Steven Dick and Andrew Haines.
Both St.Virgils and OHA will be out to avenge last week’s losses when they meet at New Town. St.Virgils’ form has dropped off of late but they have had the wood on OHA to date and Mark Beck, Josh Nibbs, Matthew Parker and Sam Unsworth are playing well but OHA can never be underestimated and have Brad Marsland, Luke Taylor, Dan Ryan and Stuart Probert in form.
Review Round 20 - Aug 22
With only one round remaining Richmond and St.Virgils have locked in the top two spots after recording decisive victories in the Old Scholars Football Association.
Richmond had too much firepower up forward courtesy of Rod Brumby (7 goals) and Chris Crossin (6 goals) with onballers Ben Cato and Adam Daft brilliant in defeating Hutchins by 88 points who were best served by defenders Jason Nichols and Alistair Sayers and onballers Michael Walsh and Nick Leitch.
St.Virgils hit back with a vengeance in handing OHA a 52 point loss. With solid performances from defenders Jason Frawley and Zac Batchelor, onballer Michael Grandin with John Rafferty chipping in with 6 goals St.Virgils proved too strong especially after half time and while OHA turned it on in the second quarter they lacked consistency although Brendan Rogers, Grant Wakefield, Callum Garvey, Aaron Limbrick and Dan Ryan played well.
In their final roster game University had all the answers in scoring a 115 point win over a courageous Channel. Channel had a good opening quarter but University stepped up a gear with forwards Charles Rae and Matt Riseley amongst the goals while onballers Sam Maguire, and Craig Haremza were dominant. Channel fought the game out led by Jarrod Mason, Jye Rogers, Adam Sharp and Richard Leaman.
Preview Round 19 - Aug 15
With three rounds of games remaining St.Virgils are expected to hold on to top spot but there is great interest in who will finish second between Richmond and University with Richmond favoured to succeed having three games to University’s two remaining.
A titanic struggle is anticipated at Richmond when the home team host St.Virgils. Richmond are well equipped for victory with forwards Chris Crossin and Rod Brumby, onballers Adam Daft, Ben Cato and Andrew Haines leading the way but they confront an outfit who have strengths on every line and Patrick Midson, Matthew Parker, Mark Beck, Josh and Jay Nibbs starring.
DOSA could have their work cut out in their clash with a confident Hutchins. DOSA have struggled this season mainly due to injuries and lack of tall players but with Chris Rowbottom, Glen Balmforth, Darren Gregg and Matthew Fielding at the forefront they will test the visitors who should prevail through Michael Walsh, Tom Gibson, Jason Nichols and Matthew Lister.
Can OHA maintain their winning streak over University in their game at Geilston Bay. The forward set up of OHA through Sam Bowering and Ben Langford looks more dangerous than University’s while Luke Taylor and Joel Doyle are strong in defence but University have match winners in Charles Rae, Cameron Burgess, Josh Nelson while John Mazey could be a trump card up forward.
Channel have the bye.
Review Round 19 - Aug 15
DOSA with members from their 1994 and 1999 premierships present had reason to celebrate after holding out Hutchins in a tight contest. A five goal opening quarter by DOSA set up their win as goal scoring became more difficult as the game progressed while DOSA’s Nathan Abrahams, Matthew Fielding, Darren Gregg and Aaron Davey relished the slippery conditions to keep Hutchins at bay and win by 17 points. Best for Hutchins were midfielders Nick Leitch and Tom Friend with onballers Michael Walsh and Scott Nichols.
Richmond sprung a surprise in thrashing St.Virgils by 75 points and in doing so joined them at the top of the premiership ladder. After an even first quarter the floodgates opened for the home team as they piled on 19 goals to 10 by St.Virgils courtesy of great work by midfielders Steven Dick, Jacob Dunn, Andrew Haines and Julian Sturzaker while St.Virgils had triers in Nick Davie, Matthew Parker, Mark Beck and Josh Nibbs.
University turned the tables on OHA winning a scrambly game by 31 points at Abbottsfield Park. University gained the upper hand in the second and third quarters through the in form Cameron Burgess Charles Rae, Rob Hill and Matt Riseley while containing OHA’s formidable forwards but OHA had good players in Brad Marsland, Luke Taylor, Dan Ryan and Aaron Limbrick.
Preview Round 18 - Aug 08
Second plays third when University host Richmond in a vital clash with both teams vying for second spot. The home team were successful in rounds four and eleven and will be determined to make it three nil and with Charles Rae and John Mazey leading a solid forward set up and Nick Fenton and Josh Nelson setting up countless chances will be ready for Richmond who have not lost since their round eleven clash and boast a wealth of talent led by onballers Steven Dick and Adam Daft, forward Chris Crossin and Ben Waller.
Channel face a tough game against OHA who will be keen to lock in fourth spot with a double chance spot unlikely. Channel have had a tough initiation into the Old Scholars but have performed admirably led by Jarrod Mason, Mark Clark, Jamey Webster and Nick Butler. OHA are having a mixed season but with Brad Marsland, Dan Ryan, Trent Moore and Ashley Banks prominent are still a threat.
The St.Virgils versus DOSA game could be a struggle with St.Virgils keen to display their smooth flowing game with Sam Unsworth, Mark Beck, Zac Batchelor and Jacob Cole leading from the front and should hold DOSA who have Sean Byrne, Brady Pearton, Matthew Fielding and Brennan Ploughman playing well to a losing score.
Hutchins have the bye.
Review Round 18 - Aug 08
Richmond moved in to second spot on the premiership ladder after registering a vital win over University. University held a 20 point lead at half time with Richmond’s inaccuracy not helping their cause but the visitors got it together in the second half outscoring University 12 goals to 4 set up by a 7 goal third term to eventually run out 30 point winners. Richmond had stars in Matthew Allie, Ben Cato, Adam Daft and Andrew Haines while best for University were Cameron Burgess, Craig Haremza, Rob Hill and Jamie Murphett.
Channel provided some resistance in their game against OHA but eventually succumbed the reigning premiers by 99 points. With Ben Langford, Jason Marsland, Joel Doyle, and Craig Unsworth dominant and Sam Bowering a focal point at full forward with 8 goals OHA led at every change with their experience a factor but Channel fought on through the hard working Dean Dowe, Jye Rogers, Adam Warn and Kyle Shaw.
St.Virgils were far too good for DOSA winning by 87 points in their clash at New Town. St.Virgils had too much all round strength coupled with their link up players in Patrick Midson, Matthew Parker and John Rafferty while Mark Beck was strong in defence for DOSA who battled against the odds courtesy of Kim Harvey, Darren Gregg, Matthew Fielding and Chris Rowbottom.
Preview Round 17 - Aug 01
Can DOSA upset University and open the door for Richmond to take over second spot. DOSA have the ability to push if not defeat University especially if Brady Pearton and Kim Harvey can capitalise on chances offered by their running half backs and onballers led by Pat Carroll, Jim Penwright and Darren Gregg while Cameron Golding poses a problem whether playing forward or back. University had an important win last week and led by Cameron Burgess, Charles Rae, Nick Fenton and Josh Nelson with Michael Gowans adding bite to their forward line they should hold all the aces.
Richmond should continue on their winning way when they host Channel through the creative Ben Cato, Adam Daft and Josh Woolley while Chris Crossin is a target at full forward and Adam Baines is a fine defender. Channel pushed DOSA after half time last week and a repeat of that form will give them the confidence needed while Kyle Shaw, Mark Clark, Adam Warn, Sam Bouwman and Richard Leaman are in form.
Hutchins face a danger game when they host St.Virgils. Hutchins form has been reasonable the last month but a concerted effort is required against the ladder leader but Hamish Kingston, Scott Nichols, Nick Leitch and Alistair Sayers are performing each week. St.Virgils are on a roll with the consistent Zac Batchelor, Sam Unsworth, Michael Collis and Patrick Midson leading the way.
OHA have the bye.
Review Round 17 - Aug 01
In adverse conditions University jumped DOSA in the first quarter at Cadburys kicking 8 goals to nil to set up their victory. University had all the answers especially their tall players who had a significant impact on the result namely John Mazey up forward with 5 goals and Mal Reeve in the ruck while Matthew Riseley, Heath Griggs, and Rob Hill cut a swathe through DOSA’s defence in their 92 point win while DOSA battled against the odds led by defenders Brennan Ploughman Darren Gregg and Chris Rowbottom and onballers Matthew Scott and Matthew Fielding.
Hutchins caused the upset of the round holding off an inaccurate St.Virgils by 4 points. Little was between both teams until Hutchins kicked 6 goals to nil in the third quarter to hold a 25 point lead and although Saints dominated the final quarter they were left lamenting their missed shots on goal. Scott Nichols with 5 goals, Jason Nichols, Michael Walsh and Tom Gibson were best for Hutchins with Mark Beck, Sam Unsworth, Zac Batchelor and Jacob Cole best for St.Virgils.
Richmond proved too strong for Channel with a comfortable 130 point win. Richmond set the tone from the start and peppered the goals relentlessly while containing the visitors throughout. Steven Dick, Adam Daft, Darren McGuinness and Ben Waller were bets for Richmond while Nick Butler, Mark Clark, Jamey Webster and Jarrod Mason stood out for Channel.
Preview Round 16 - July 25
With six rounds remaining University need to win at home against an enthusiastic Hutchins as they appear to have the hardest run home and with the double chance at stake Ben Beams will insist on consistency for four quarters with defenders John Morey, Daniel Bearman and Cameron Burgess along with onballers Paul Brooks and Nick Marson leading the way. Failure to win crunch games earlier on has cost Hutchins but their recent form suggests they can continue to upset the teams above them especially if forwards Adam Palfreyman and Josh Archer and defenders Andrew Deane, Alistair Sayers and Hamish Kingston continue their good work.
If Channel can put together four quarters led by Nathan Swards, Brad Sculthorpe, James McQueen and Damien Suter they will test a struggling DOSA but the visitors are an experienced outfit led by Kim Harvey, James Penwright and Cameron Golding while Darren Gregg is having a fine season in defence.
With the double chance still up for grabs both OHA and Richmond will be looking for a win when they clash at Geilston Bay but OHA need to step a gear however Brendan Rogers, Luke Taylor, Matthew Zukauskas and Ashley Banks head a team capable of producing while their opponents are travelling well with forwards Rod Brumby and Chris Crossin and onballers Josh Woolley and Julian Sturzaker in form.
St.Virgils
have the bye.
Review Round 16 - July 25
Richmond continued their dominance over OHA this season and crept closer to University in their quest for a top two spot. Little separated the teams in the first half but Richmond got away in the third quarter to lead by 16 points at the break but OHA fought back but were 8 points short at the final siren. Aaron Reeve with 5 goals was a creative forward, Ben Cato, Josh Woolley and Adam Daft were busy and Adam Baines worked tirelessly in defence for Richmond while best for OHA were onballers Brad Marsland and Trent Moore and defenders Daniel Archer, Brendan Rogers and Dan Ryan.
Led by Michael Gowans and Cameron Burgess University scored a much needed win in defeating Hutchins. Up to half time it was anyone’s game but University gained the ascendancy in the third quarter and although Hutchins fought back University ran out 24 point winners. Other good players for University were Chris Rae and Josh Nelson while Alistair Sayers, Jason and Scott Nichols and Hamish Kingston were best for Hutchins.
DOSA were in control of their game with Channel at half time but a resurgent home team kept pace with the visitors in the second half led by Brad Sculthorpe, Adam Warn, Kyle Shaw and Sam Bouwman but with Jim Penwright, Brady Pearton, Nathan Abrahams and Pat Carroll in control DOSA ran out 60 point winners.
Preview Round 15 - July 18
St.Virgils consistent form should get them over the line against an inconsistent University. St.Virgils have an abundance of runners led by Jon Viney, Michael Collis and Michael Grandin, Brad Dodge is elusive around goals and Matthew Parker and Zac Batchelor are courageous in and under players. After looking ominous early in the season University’s form has dropped off but the return of Michael Gowans and David Welch adds experience, height and mobility and with Alex Gilmour, Chris Rae, Cameron Burgess and Julian Damesena in form a tight finish is predicted.
Due to Cadburys ground being closed, DOSA will be looking for improvement when they confront OHA at Richmond. DOSA have a good mix of small men but lack another tall forward and Cameron Golding is needed in defence while they have Nathan Abrahams, Matthew Honey and Darren Gregg playing well. OHA will be out to atone for last week’s loss and should win through the talented Ben Langford, Ashley Banks, Daniel Archer and Brendan Rogers.
Hutchins should prevail in their encounter with Channel through the hard working Hamish Kingston, Marcus Windsor and Nick Leitch but the visitors showed last week they can match it with all teams but cannot sustain the pressure for four quarters while Mark Clark, Morgan Maguire and Adam Sharp continue to play well.
Richmond have the bye.
Review Round 15 - July 18
With OHA defeating DOSA yesterday the final four appears settled although positions could change over the remaining six rounds.
After an even first quarter OHA took over from DOSA keeping them goalless for two quarters while kicking ten goals and lead by 64 points entering the final quarter but DOSA kept plugging away but OHA ran out 79 point winners led by Brad Marsland, Chris Hevey, Daniel Archer and Matthew Zukauskas while Darren Gregg, Brady Pearton, Kim Harvey and Mathew Fielding battled hard for DOSA.
A wasteful St.Virgils proved too accomplished for University in the top of the table clash. University were within striking distance of the home team at half time but St.Virgils ran away in the second half through the busy Patrick Midson, Zac Batchelor, Damien Hill and Brent Williams to win by 48 points. Cameron Burgess was again a shining light for University supported by John Morey, Paul Brooks and Daniel Bearman.
Hutchins were too strong for Channel winning by 105 points at Queenborough. With Adam Palfreyman (6 goals) a focal point up forward Hutchins created countless opportunities kicking 20 goals while restricting Channel to 3 although Channel finished the game out. Alistair Sayers, Scott Nichols, Doug Rossiter and Andrew Deane were best for Hutchins while Nathan Swards, Adam Warn, James McQueen and Phil Cummings stood out for Channel.
Preview Round 14 - July 11
With only eight rounds left in the Old Scholars Football Association final four positions appear settled with both DOSA and Hutchins very rank outsiders to make it. DOSA need a win at home against the speedy Richmond and forwards Matthew Honey and Jim Penwright will need to fire but face stiff opposition from Richmond’s Adam Baines and Nathan Woolley while DOSA’s midfielders Pat Carroll, Brennan Ploughmann will have a great tussle with Ben Cato and Andrew Haines and DOSA’s mister fix it Cameron Golding could match up on Richmond’s Chris Crossin.
Led by onballers Sam Unsworth, Jon Viney and Michael Collis plus defenders Jay Nibbs and Zac Batchelor ladder leader St.Virgils will be too strong and skilful for Channel who will be competitive early through the hard working Jarrod Mason, Mark Clark, Adam Sharp, Sam Bouwman and Jye Rogers.
Hutchins meet OHA and will be confident after last week’s effort but need to finish off their games however, defenders Hamish Kingston and Marcus Windsor with onballers Jamie Harriss, Tom Gibson and Josh Archer are in form. OHA need to recapture their quick ball movement through their midfield and create opportunities for Stuart Probert and Sam Bowering but their defence led by Dan Ryan, Anthony Cole and Luke Taylor is standing firm.
University have the bye.
Review Round 14 - July 11
In the closest game of the round in the Old Scholars Football Association Hutchins slim chance of a finals spot was given a boost with a hard fought win over their nearest rival OHA. Hutchins led at every change and held OHA out in the final quarter to win by 7 points. Hutchins’ onballers Nick Leitch, Tom Gibson and Jamie Harriss revelled in the conditions and Hamish Kingston was solid in defence while best for OHA were onballer Matthew Zukauskas with defenders Brendan Rogers, Daniel Archer and Luke Taylor.
St.Virgils increased their lead on the premiership ladder with a comfortable 137 point win over Channel although Channel put in a gritty performance but Saints forward line where Brad Dodge starred received countless scoring opportunities through Patrick Midson, Michael Grandin and Matthew Parker. Channel battled throughout with onballers Morgan Maguire, Jamey Webster and defenders Adam Sharp and Mark Clark leading the way.
With Rod Brumby and Chris Crossin dominant up forward Richmond swept DOSA away to the tune of 105 points. Richmond meant business from the start with a 9 goal opening quarter and led by 88 points at half time courtesy of the busy Josh Woolley, Aaron Reeve and Julian Sturzaker but to DOSA’s credit they fought back in the second half through Matthew Honey, Nathan Abrahams, Jeremy Robinson and Chris Burdon but the damage had been done.
Preview Round 13 - July 04
Channel face a tough challenge when they host University who will be on the rebound after last week’s loss.
Channel are team building with the likes of James McQueen, Jarrod Mason, Nick Butler and Kyle Shaw showing heaps of promise but Sam Bouwman is ensuring they are competitive each game. University will be out to make amends after last weeks loss and led by Alex Gilmour, Charles Jones, Chris Rae, Paul Brooks and Cameron Burgess will have too many option
Richmond are favoured to take the points when they host Hutchins at Richmond. The home team’s Ben Waller, Ben Cato, Adam Daft and Andrew Haines are busy ball getters while Nathan Terry and Jhy Wiggins control a competent forward line. Hutchins will match their opposition around the stoppages and across midfield through Nick Leitch, Tom Gibson and George Friend and defenders Brendan Kull and Tim Graver.
The OHA versus St.Virgils clash should be a great spectacle in a game that could go either way. OHA have a forward target in Sam Bowering and Saint’s Zac Batchelor may get the task of restricting him but with quality ball coming from Ashley Banks, Stuart Probert, Jason Marsland and Trent Moore St.Virgils defence will be tested but have in form defenders in Jason Frawley, Jacob Cole, Damien Hill and Michael Collis.
DOSA have the bye.
Review Round 13 - July 04
Richmond’s push for a top two finish is still on track but were made to work hard for victory against Hutchins. Hutchins kept pace with the home team and although trailing by 20 points at half time were still in the game highlighted by a third quarter effort reducing the margin to a goal but Richmond finished the better to win by 25 points. Andrew Haines, Ben Cato, Chris Crossin with 7 goals and Josh Woolley were best for Richmond while Hamish Kingston, Michael Walsh and Tom Gibson stood tall for Hutchins.
Channel kept University honest in the first half of their game but the visitors had all the answers in the second half running away for a comfortable 79 point win. University’s Chris Rae continued his fine form supported by Cameron Burgess, Jarred Allen and Luke Niejelke while best for Channel were Brad Sculthorpe, Adam Sharp, Jye Rogers and Rod Carmichael.
St.Virgils remain on top of the ladder after disposing of OHA to the tune of 33 points. St.Virgils peppered the goals but inaccuracy denied them a bigger lead at half time and they continued on in the second half with their defence led by Jason Frawley and Zac Batchelor keeping OHA’s forwards in check and Jay Nibbs and Michael Collis were terrific while for OHA Damien Dillon, Luke Taylor, Anthony Cole and Dan Ryan battled hard.
Preview Round 12 - June 27
Will the St.Virgils juggernaut continue to roll along when they host Richmond at New Town. St.Virgils wins are attributed to the evenness of the team headed by a group of stars led by Sam Unsworth, Jon Viney, Michael Collis, Brad Dodge, Damien Hill while Matthew Parker is running in to some hot form. Richmond usually put in a good showing against St.Virgils and have enjoyed a steady last five weeks with midfielders Ben Cato and Heath Barwin, defenders Adam Baines and Walter Dowling plus Jhy Wiggins and Justin Muskett in good form.
The clash at University between the home team and OHA promises to be a top encounter as both teams are renowned for entertaining football with their star players at the forefront in University’s Alex Gilmour, Chris Rae, Cameron Burgess and Paul Brooks with the return of David Welch and Michael Gowans a bonus whereas OHA have Ashley Banks, Sam Bowering, Stuart Probert, Joel Doyle, Ben Langford and Sean Hollick in sparkling form.
Hutchins and DOSA will both be desperate for a win to keep in touch with the final four. Hutchins have Nick Leitch, Tom Gibson, Matthew Lister and Mitch Smith in form while DOSA have Matthew Fielding, Scott Beattie, Cameron Golding and Aaron Davey playing well.
Channel have the bye.
Review Round 12 - June 27
OHA proved too strong for University in the only game played in round twelve of the Old Scholars Football Association.
At University uncanny accuracy by OHA kicking 13 goals from 15 scoring shots enabled them to control the game and they led at every change thanks to fine contributions from Stuart Probert and Brendan Rogers using their experience in the conditions to control proceedings backed up by James Tierney, Trent Moore, Ashley Banks and Ben Langford who lent solid support with Sam Bowering finishing off the work at full forward kicking 6 goals. University had their chances and were well served by Alex Gilmour, Cameron Burgess, John Morey, Dan Bearman, Charles Jones and Chris Rae.
Games between Hutchins and DOSA at Queenborough and St.Virgils and Richmond at New Town were cancelled due to both grounds unavailable with the four clubs sharing the premiership points at two points each.
Preview Round 11 - June 20
Third plays first when Richmond host University. Richmond have won there last four games and with newcomer Nathan Terry having an impact since he arrived and Heath Barwin, Andrew Haines, Scott Boxhall and Ben Cato are among the best players each week. University are getting players back with David Welch a welcome addition and they won a tough round four encounter while the consistent John Mazey, Cameron Burgess in defence and onballers Jim Dunham and Charles Rae are in form.
OHA should hold all the aces in their clash with Channel. OHA have had mixed success in the last month but have onballers Ashley Banks, Aaron Limbrick and Trent Moore with defenders Dan Ryan and Daniel Archer playing well. Channel have made changes to their playing group with Sam Bouwman now in charge and their competiveness cannot be questioned even though they are winless with Adam Sharp, Kyle Shaw, Morgan Maguire and Jarrod Mason leading the way.
DOSA will need to put in a four quarter effort when they meet St.Virgils. The home team’s form is good for most of the game led by Brady Pearton, Patrick Carroll, Cameron Golding and Matthew Honey but St.Virgils have the ability to shut down opposition playmakers with Sam Unsworth, Jon Viney, Zac Batchelor and Jason Frawley leading a strong outfit.
Hutchins have the bye.
Review Round 11 - June 20
A six goal opening quarter by University proved the difference in their clash with Richmond. University led at every change but whatever Heath Barwin said at three quarter time nearly worked as Richmond fought back only to fall short by 2 points. University’s Paul brooks and David Welch were busy midfielders, Cameron Burgess and Nathan Brereton set up many attacks, Chris Rae finished off their good work up forward and Michael Gowans return bolsters their big man division while best for Richmond were onballers Ben Cato, Justin Muskett and Heath Barwin and defenders Adam Baines, Walter Dowling and Anthony Dillon.
St.Virgils continued on their winning way with a comfortable win over DOSA. St.Virgils had all the answers containing DOSA’s dangerous forwards while at the other end Brad Dodge and Matthew Cracknell were proving a handful. Midfielder Michael Collis continued his good form for Saints assisted by Matthew Parker and Jon Viney in their 77 point win while best for DOSA were Aaron Davey, Matthew Fielding, Scott Beattie and Michael Robinson.
OHA gave Channel a football lesson in the first half as they recorded a 153 point victory but to Channel’s credit they fought on keeping the home team to 10 goals while adding 4 goals themselves after half time.
Ashley Banks, Joel Doyle, Sam Bowering and Ben Langford stood out as OHA ran riot while Sam Bouwman, Adam Sharp, Chris Schofield and Nick Butler stood out for Channel.
Preview Round 10 - June 13
In the Old Scholars Football Association games this Saturday University is favoured to remain in one of the top two spots when they play DOSA but their task will be all the more harder if they lose Alex Gilmour who faced the Tribunal on Tuesday but Cameron Burgess, Jim Dunham and Paul Brooks are finding plenty of the ball, John Mazey is strong in defence and Chris Rae is in top form. DOSA were very impressive for three quarters but then stopped last week and will need a four quarter effort although Brennan Ploughman, Cameron Golding, Darren Gregg, Brendan Loveless and are in form and Matthew Honey has been amongst the goals.
The chances of Channel defeating Richmond will depend largely on their ability to control Richmond’s on ball dominance and penetrate their mean defence but are picking up players each week and have Jarrod Mason, Sam Bouwman, Damien Suter and James McQueen in the thick of things each week while Richmond’s Nathan Woolley, Adam Daft, Ben Waller and Andrew Boucher are running hot.
St.Virgils are tipped to continue their winning run when they host Hutchins. St.Virgils have taken all before them since round one and are certainly the surprise packet at the moment playing as a team with Sam Unsworth, Damien Hill, Brad Dodge and Jon Viney consistent stand outs. Hutchins are always competitive but need their midfield to have an influence and Jamie Harriss, Tom Friend, Brendan Kull and Mitch Smith to play well.
OHA have the bye.
Review Round 10 - June 13
Built around an energetic on ball outfit and a staunch defence St.Virgils slipped and slid to a hard fought win over Hutchins. Poor finishing by Hutchins in the first half denied them the lead at the main break but the home team came out full of endeavour in the second half and outscore Hutchins and win by 37 points. St.Virgils were led by defenders Jason Frawley and Jay Nibbs and onballers Matthew Cracknell and Nathan Hartnett while for Hutchins Tom Gibson, Nick Leitch gathered plenty of the ball and George Friend and Marcus Windsor lent solid support.
Although appearing in control at half time Richmond made certain of victory over Channel with an 8 goal third quarter that set up their 103 point win. With coach Heath Barwin showing the way Richmond had all the answers and outplayed the home team. Other good players for Richmond were midfielders Steven Dick, Josh Winch and Ben Cato while best for Channel were Adam Sharp, Morgan Maguire, Matt Turnbull and Kyle Shaw.
DOSA did it again against University with a final quarter fade out enabling University to add 3 goals to their third quarter lead and win by 28 points. Up until the third quarter it was any ones game but University had the answers led by Jim Dunham, Nick Marson, Heath Griggs and John Morey while best for DOSA were Matthew Fielding, Brady Pearton, Pat Carroll and Cameron Golding.
Preview Round 9 - June 6
A close encounter is expected when Hutchins and University clash at Queenborough. Even though there are plenty of games to be played Hutchins need to continue winning so the gap to the finals does not widen too much but need to find some consistency but with onballer Nick Leitch plus Jamie Harriss, George and Tom Friend and Matthew Lister leading the way and Adam Palfreyman back amongst the goals Hutchins appear on the way back. University lacked forward pressure last week but their defence and midfield combine well while Josh Nelson, Matthew Gill, Paul Brooks, Jim Dunham, Cameron Burgess and Matt Riseley are providing drive.
DOSA face a danger in their clash with Channel at Cadburys. DOSA are in a similar position to Hutchins in their finals quest but led by forward Matthew Honey, onballer Brennan Ploughman and defenders Cameron Golding and Aaron Davey should hold all the aces against a determined Channel outfit who have Sam Bouwman, Jarrod Mason, Damien Suter and Mark Clark in form.
The clash at Richmond with the home team up against OHA promises to be beauty. Richmond won their last encounter while the form of both teams since then has been up and down but Richmond are receiving great service from Ben Waller, Adam Daft, Heath Barwin and Jhy Wiggins while Callum Garvey, Craig Unsworth, Trent Moore and Ashley Banks are consistent ball winners.
St.Virgils have the bye.
Review Round 9 - June 6
DOSA appeared set for a comfortable victory over Channel at Cadburys but a last quarter fight back by the visitors saw them kick 4 goals while holding DOSA goalless but fell short by 22 points. DOSA were in control for the first three quarters leading at every change led by Tim Golding, Matthew Scott, Brennan Ploughman and Brady Pearton but Channel were not to be denied and with Jarrod Mason, Damien Suter, Sam Bouwman and James McQueen starring they fought the contest out to the end.
University are back on top of the premiership ladder with victory over Hutchins at Queenborough. University were the better team on the day restricting Hutchins ball carriers and cutting off the supply to their forwards with University’s Alex Gilmore, Cameron Burgess and Chris Rae around the ground and John Mazey controlling the defence in their 48 point win. Best for Hutchins were Tom Gibson, Tom Friend, Scott Nicholls and Brendan Kull.
Richmond scored a hard fought win over OHA at Richmond. After a see sawing first half OHA led by 9 points but Richmond took over in the second half and drew away from their opponents for a 22 point victory. Andrew Haines was a livewire around midfield and Ben Waller, Adam Baines and Nathan Woolley were strong in defence for Richmond while Dan Ryan was best for OHA supported by James Tierney, Mark Monks and Scott Schnitzerling.
Preview Round 8 - May 30
University and St.Virgils meet in the top of the table clash while in other games OHA host DOSA and Channel entertain Hutchins. Richmond have the bye.
Both teams will be vying for top spot in the clash at University. If Alex Gilmour returns to University he will add class around the packs while John Mazey, Josh Nelson and Cameron Burgess in defence, onballers Marek Matuzek and Paul Brooks with forward Jim Dunham lead a strong unit. St.Virgils appear to be going from strength to strength and led by onballers Brent Williams, Daniel Gray and Jon Viney plus Zac Batchelor and Damien Hill in defence and Sam Unsworth up forward will test the home team all the way.
OHA will need to produce a four quarter effort to keep out a hard working DOSA outfit at Geilston Bay. OHA had to work hard last week but injuries have depleted them although Sam Bowering, Dan Ryan. Stuart Probert, Callum Garvey are in form and Daniel Archer showed good signs last week but they face a determined DOSA who have Pat Carroll, Darren Gregg, Nathan Abrahams, Lachlan Quirk and Cameron Golding playing well.
Channel might fancy themselves for an upset win when they meet Hutchins at Snug Park. Channel are improving week by week with a combination of experience and youth led by Adam Warne, Jarrod Mason, Damien Suter, Sam Bouwman and James McQueen. Hutchins look the goods on paper but are not producing on the field but Jamie Harriss, Nick Leitch, Tom Friend, Matthew Lister and Mitch Smith are consistent each week.
Review Round 8 - May 30
St.Virgils moved into top spot after defeating University in a hard fought clash at University. St.Virgils started brightly and led by 12 points at the break but University reduced the margin to 7 points at half time. The third quarter saw both teams looking for the ascendancy with St.Virgils getting the break to lead by 12 points entering the final quarter which they increased to 19 points at the final siren. Best for St.Virgils were Brad Dodge with 6 goals, defender Damien Hill and onballers Sam Unsworth, Josh Nibbs and Matthew Cracknell while Cameron Burgess was everywhere for University supported by defenders Josh Nelson and Matthew Gill and onballers Jim Dunham.
OHA were too accomplished for DOSA winning by 92 points. OHA began with 10 goals while DOSA replied with 5 goals in an entertaining opening quarter but OHA continued their forward onslaught in the second half to add 15 goals while restricting DOSA to 5. Trent Moore, Matthew Zukauskas, Craig Unsworth and Ashley Banks were best for OHA and Matthew Honey with 8 goals, Darren Gregg, Matthew Harrison and Brennan Ploughman stood out for DOSA.
Hutchins returned to the winners list with a comfortable 83 point win over Channel. With their veterans in Jamie Harriss, Adam Palfreyman along with Matthew Lister and Nick Leitch in control the visitors had too much experience for Channel who had good contributors in Sam Bouwman, Damien Suter, Morgan Maguire and Jarrod Mason.
Preview Round 7 - May 23
Richmond v
DOSA (Night Game)
The inability to punish their opponents haunts both Richmond and DOSA and their
clash on Saturday night will be full of interest namely whether both teams can
find some consistency and while Richmond are experiencing inaccuracy in front of
goal they are gradually running into some decent form led by Walter Dowling,
Josh Woolley with Ben Waller in defence or across midfield, onballer Adam Daft,
Andrew Boucher and Matthew Allie. A DOSA victory will edge them closer to the
four and the inclusion of Matthew Honey along side James Penwright gives them a
two pronged attack with drive coming from Kim Harvey, Brennan Ploughman, Aaron
Davey and Scott Beattie.
Channel v St.Virgils
Channel will be hoping for a repeat performance of last week when they confront a confidant St.Virgils. Channel were very competitive against University led by Sam Bouwman, James McQeen, Luke Bartulovic and Adam Sharp but come up against an in form team who have contributors on every line led by Daniel Gray, Sam Unsworth, Kent Millington and Jon Viney.
OHA v Hutchins
The OHA and Hutchins clash should be a close encounter as both strive for victory. OHA were disappointing last week with the loss of key players having its effect but have plenty of experience in Anthony Cole, Stuart Probert, Andrew Chilcott and Ashley Banks while Hutchins have a blend of youth and experience led by Nick Leitch, Tim Smith, Matthew Lister and Jamie Harriss but need to finish games out.
University have the bye.
Review Round 7 - May 23
Led by a 7 goal haul from Sam Bowering OHA held off a fast finishing Hutchins to record a narrow win.
Little separated both teams throughout with OHA holding a slight advantage at each break and Hutchins were unable to bridge the gap failing by 7 points. Stuart Probert and Daniel Archer put in sterling efforts for OHA supported by Aaron Limbrick and Dan Ryan while best for Hutchins were Aston Wills, Nick Leitch, Jamie Harriss and Mitch Smith.
St.Virgils called on all their experience which proved too much for Channel in their 57 point win. St.Virgils led at every change but Channel’s last quarter effort was admirable and were competitive all game. Best for St.Virgils were Brent Williams, Nathan Hartnett, Brad Hastie and Sam Unsworth while Jarrod Mason, Adam Warn, Damien Sutor and Sam Bouwman stood out for Channel.
Only a couple of goals was the difference between Richmond and DOSA in the first three quarters in their night game but Richmond stormed home to win by 30 points. Richmond led early but DOSA’s better finishing saw them hold a 1 point lead at three quarter time but Richmond peppered the goals in the final quarter but could only manage 5 goals to 2 by DOSA. Best for Richmond were Adam Daft, Nathan Terry, Heath Barwin and Aaron Reeve while Matthew Honey, Cameron Golding, Lachlan Quirk and Pat Carroll were best for DOSA.
Preview Round 6 - May 16
The clash between third placed St.Virgils and OHA who occupy second place should be a beauty with both teams displaying sound form over the last three weeks. St.Virgils wins have hard fought encounters over that time which should put them in good stead with leadership roles being filled by Daniel Gray, Brent Williams and Sam Unsworth while Josh and Jay Nibbs are solid in defence and Brad Dodge is lively across midfield. OHA have defenders Dan Ryan, Sean Hollick and Daniel Archer and onballers Craig Unsworth and Joe Doyle providing plenty of drive with Andrew Chilcott amongst the goals will provide stern opposition.
The Hutchins versus Richmond game also promises to be a close encounter although both teams will need to play for four quarters unlike last week. Hutchins have a strong team on paper but need to produce on the field however Jamie Harriss and Michael McGregor add experience and Nick Leitch, Brendan Kull, Matthew Lister and Alex Sayers are in form. Richmond will be keen to atone for last week’s loss and edge closer to the top teams with Rod Brumby, Adam Baines Josh Woolley, Ben Cato, Jhy Wiggins and Ben Waller having a say in the matter.
University will bounce back with a vengeance and with Cameron Burgess, Jim Dunham, Jarred Allen and Nick Marson in form should have too many options for Channel who will give it their best shot led by Damien Suter, Nathan Swards, Matt Turnbull and Jarrod Mason
Review Round 6 - May 16
An 8 goal first quarter salvo gave St.Virgils a telling victory over OHA. Only 11 goals were scored by both teams in the remaining three quarters with St.Virgils maintaining their advantage through hard work plus a desperate defence although OHA got to within 2 straight kicks late in the third quarter but St.Virgils finished off to win by 25 points. Onballers Daniel Gray, Jon Viney, Josh Nibbs and Sam Unsworth with Zac Batchelor and Jacob Cole in defence were best for St.Virgils while onballers Trent Moore, Ashley Banks, Aaron Limbrick, and Callum Garvey plus defenders Dan Ryan and Matthew Heenan were best for OHA.
Although inaccurate at goal it took most of the game for University to shake off a persistent Channel but the home team kept top spot with a 51 point win. University had more experience around the packs and in defence and while Channel tried hard were generally outplayed. Cammeron Burgess, Robert Hill, Jim Dunham and Paul Brooks were best for University while Luke Bartulovic, Adam Sharp, Matt Turnbull and Sam Bouwman stood out for Channel.
Hutchins took advantage of a dry ball and kicking to the river end to hold a 19 point lead over Richmond in the first quarter but Richmond while inaccurate for goal fought back from a half time deficit of 16 points to wear Hutchins down and record a 3 point win. Adam Daft, Josh Woolley, Walter Dowling and Matthew Allie were best for Richmond with Nick Leitch again best for Hutchins along with Scott Nicholls, Jamie Harriss and Matthew Lister.
Preview Round 5- May 9
With both team blessed with multiple goal kickers a possible shootout looms in the clash between OHA and University. In other games Richmond host St.Virgils and DOSA are home to Hutchins. Channel have the bye.
OHA are slowly showing form with James Tierney, Craig Unsworth, Joe Doyle, Grant Wakefield and Ashley Banks creating countless opportunities while Sam Bowering returns this week to bolster their attack but will miss Craig Grace, Michael Bannister and Damien Dillon. University are on a high with their solid recruiting paying dividends and they are taking all before them led by Alex Gilmore, John Mazey, Josh Nelson, John Morey, Charles Jones, Jim Dunham, Chris Rae and Paul Brooks but will miss David Welch who is injured.
The Richmond and St.Virgils game should be tight but Richmond will need to come to play and Heath Barwin will insist on consistency although Ben Cato, Julian Sturzaker, Adam Daft and Adam Baines stand out.
St.Virgils are showing a lot of spirit but they usually struggle against Richmond and the loss of Marcus Parker to Glenorchy is a blow but Brad Dodge, Nathan Hartnett, Sam Unsworth and Brent Williams are in form.
The DOSA versus Hutchins clash should be an even affair. DOSA were unlucky last week but had fine contributors in Kim Harvey, Matt Harrison, Nathan Abrahams, Cameron Golding and Tim Erends. Hutchins need a win so Adam Palfreyman, Matthew Lister, Nick Leitch, Michael Walsh and Josh Archer need to stand tall.
Review Round 5 - May 9
OHA won a close encounter against the previously unbeaten University. There was little between both teams throughout but OHA’s ability to score goals from their opportunities proved to be the difference enabling them to win by 14 points. Best for OHA were Ben Langford, Brendan Rogers, Daniel Archer and Joe Doyle while Robert Hill, Cameron Burgess, Jim Dunham and Jarred Allen played well for University.
A dominant second half by DOSA saw them come from 28 points down at half time to outplay Hutchins and register a remarkable 31 point win. Hutchins appeared in control even though DOSA were inaccurate at goal but DOSA soon put that theory to bed with an awesome second half display. DOSA were well served by James Penwright, Matthew Fielding, Brennan Ploughman and Cameron Golding while for Hutchins Jamie Harris, Nick Leitch, Alex Sayers and Joel Edwards played well.
St. Virgils ran out winners against Richmond in a seesawing affair. Richmond meant business in the opening quarter establishing a 29 point lead but St.Virgils gradually pegged them back but Richmond steadied only for St.Virgils to come home with a wet sail kicking 7 goals to 1 to win by 15 points. Daniel Gray, Jake Cole, Matthew Parker and Brent Williams stood out for St.Virgils while Rod Brumby, Josh Woolley, Adam Baines and Ben Waller were best for Richmond.
Preview Round 4 - May 2
In what should be a test of strengths the clash between University and Richmond should be the highlight of round four in the Old Scholars Football Association on Saturday. In other games Channel host OHA and St.Virgils play DOSA. Hutchins have the bye.
University have taken all before them recording comfortable wins in their games to date but come up against a Richmond outfit who should test them out but University are playing as a team led by Alex Gilmore, Cameron Burgess, Matt Riseley, David Welch and Charles Jones.
Richmond’s recruits led by half backs Scott Campbell and Walter Dowling, midfielders Ben Cato and Julian Sturzaker with forward Rodney Brumby have blended nicely into the team.
Channel face a stern test when they host OHA who will be out to avenge their loss to Richmond two weeks ago but the home team are displaying courage, tackle hard and are very competitive led by Jamey Webster, Justin Baily, Matt Turnbull, Neil Hansson and Matthew Bird but OHA should prove too talented with Sam Bowering, Dan Ryan, Ashley Banks, Andrew Chilcott and Craig Unsworth showing good early form.
St.Virgils appear to have too many options for DOSA in their clash at New Town. Saints have an even spread of players with Marcus Parker a target up forward supported by Sam Unsworth, Conan Zeigeler and John Rafferty, a solid defence plus onballers Jon Viney and Brent Williams.
With their recruits getting used to their style of play DOSA will trouble all teams led by Aaron Davey, Laughlin Quirk, Cameron Golding, Nathan Abrahams, Pat Carroll and Peter Bowerman.
Review Round 4- May 2
A tremendous last quarter fight back enabled St.Virgils to pinch the points from DOSA in a thriller at New Town.
St.Virgils led early but DOSA held a 19 point lead at half time after an 8 goal second quarter. St.Virgils failed to take advantage in the third quarter and DOSA were 11 points up entering the final quarter which they extended to 18 points but St.Virgils whittled the margin down and hit the front to win by 11 points. St.Virgils best were Kent Millington, Sam Unsworth, Brad Dodger, Jaye Nibbs and Jake Cole while Matthew Harrison, Nathan Abrahams, Kim Harvey, Cameron Golding and Darren Gregg were great for DOSA.
University continued on their winning way with a solid 33 point win over Richmond. University were in control all game although Richmond kept pace with the ladder leader in the second half but the damage had been done by then. Best for University were John Mazey, Paul Brooks, Charlie Rae and Jim Dunham while Ben Cato, Scott Boxall with 7 goals, Julian Sturzaker and Matthew Allie stood out for Richmond.
OHA proved too strong for Channel winning their encounter by 131 points. OHA took control Channel from the opening quarter with Andrew Chilcott dominant up forward with 9 goals and Trent Moore, James Tierney, Joe Doyle and Craig Unsworth providing heaps of drive and Channel struggled but Sam Bouwman, Jarrod Mason, Damien Suter and Adam Warn tried hard.
Preview Round 3- April 25

Richmond had a good win last week with recruits Ben Cato, Walter Dowling and Scott Campbell adding experience while Jhy Wiggins, Andrew Haines and Justin Muskett began in style which augurs well for Richmond who should have all the answers against Channel who showed the transition to Old Scholars football may not take as long as they expect with a solid performance last week with Dean Dowe, Damien Suter, Sam Bouwman, Adam Warn and Jarrod Mason leading the way. This game commences at 6.30pm.
DOSA will need to be on their game when they confront a rampant University at Cadburys.
DOSA have experienced players to come into the team and assisted by Pat Carroll, Cameron Golding, Aaron Davey and James Penwright will give a bold showing but with Alex Gilmour, Cameron Burgess, David Welch, Jim Dunham and Mal Reeve leading the charge University will start favourites.
Both Hutchins and St.Virgils will be desperate to open their winning account and an even game is predicted with Hutchins’ ruckman Michael Walsh, Matthew Lister, Nick Leitch and Tom Friend in form while Saints received drive from Marcus Parker, Zac Batchelor, Nick Davey and Michael Grandin in round one.
Review Round 3- April 25
After an even start a five goal second quarter set up St.Virgils victory over Hutchins at Queenborough. St.Virgils defenders kept Hutchins’ key forwards in check throughout while Brent Williams, Jon Viney, John Rafferty and Damien Hill provided constant drive. St.Virgils kept the pressure up in a low scoring third quarter but came home full of running in the final quarter although Hutchins refused to give in but Saints prevailed by 43 points. Hutchins’ best were Joel Edwards, Jason Nichols, Brendon Kull and Matthew Lister.
University finished too strong for a courageous DOSA at Cadburys. DOSA kept pace with the ladder leader in the first half to trail by 21 points at half time but a 7 goals to 3 third quarter blew the game open for University enabling them to register a 54 point win. Charles Jones with 6 goals, Jim Dunham, Alex Gilmore and Matt Riseley stood out for University while Brennan Ploughman, Lachlan Quirk, Aaron Davey and Pat Carroll were best for DOSA.
Watched by a large crowd Richmond held too many aces for Channel recording a 104 point win under lights at Richmond. Richmond’s best were Scott Campbell who continues his great early season form backed up by Jhy Wiggins, Adam Baines and Nathan Woolley while none tried harder for Channel than Sam Bouwman, Matt Turnbull, Neil Hansson and Justin Baily.
Preview Round 2- April 18
Games this Saturday in the Old Scholars Football Association sees two of the big improvers in University and Hutchins clash at University, Channel host DOSA at Snug Park and OHA and Richmond meet in a replay of last years Grand Final at Geilston Bay.
The game at University should be a beauty after both teams scored impressive first up wins with the home team blitzing St.Virgils with newcomers Mav Matuzek, Matt Riseley, Josh Nelson and Alex Gilmour backed up by Cameron Burgess and John Morey will cause plenty of headaches for Hutchins who appear stronger in more positions and have the reliable Adam Palfreyman, Matthew Lister, Marcus Windsor and Michael Walsh complimented by newcomer Mitch Smith and the lively Graeme Werteimer.
Channel are home to DOSA with the home team finding it takes time to adjust but they will put on a brave face with Sean McGuire, Neil Hansson, Morgan Maguire and James McQueen plus a youngwhie DOSA have a number of young playerscoming through also
Review Round 2- April 18
Richmond opened their season in style avenging last years Grand Final loss with a hard fought win over OHA.
Inaccuracy in front of goal by Richmond allowed OHA to hold a slight advantage in the first half and after an arm wrestle in the third quarter Richmond held a six point lead into the final quarter but finished off the good work by Andrew Haines, Ben Cato and Ben Waller to pile on 6 goals to OHA’s 3 and run out 17 point winners. Other good players for Richmond were Jhy Wiggins, Scott Campbell and Nathan Woolley while best for OHA were forward Sam Bowering with 6 goals, defenders Sean Hollick, Dan Ryan and Brendan Rogers with Jarrod Kean and Ashley Banks.
Hutchins jumped out of the blocks against University to hold a 17 point break at quarter time but the flood gates opened up in the second quarter as University with Alex Gilmore leading the way piled on 11 goals to 3 and lead by 34 points at the main break at which point University appeared in control and they added a further 11 goals to Hutchins 7 in the second half to win by 63 points. Cameron Burgess, Jim Dunham, David Welch, Mal Reeve and Jamie Murphett were fine contributors for University while Hutchins best were Aston Wills, Nick Leitch, Jason Nichols, Kevin Jubb, Tom Friend and Matthew Lister.

DOSA have lost Scott Allen, Brendan Rogers and Heath Simms but will still field an experienced team coached by Kim Harvey along with Pat Carroll, Luke and Cameron Golding and James Penwright.

Review Round 1- April 11
Resounding victories were the order on Saturday in the Old Scholars Football Association.
OHA commenced their title defence by swamping DOSA by 118 points at Cadburys. OHA had too many options for the mostly young DOSA outfit controlling the game in most positions and although only 6 points separated the teams at quarter time DOSA could not match it with the reigning premiers who kicked 25 goals to 8 by DOSA in the next three quarters. Andrew Chilcott with 5 goals, Daniel Archer, Craig Unsworth, Grant Wakefield, James Tierney and Brendan Rogers were best for OHA were Laughlin Quirk, Justin Carrol, Aaron Davey, Danny Elliott Peter Bowerman battled hard for DOSA with Jim Penwright a shining light up forward with 6 goals.
Hutchins held too many aces in easily accounting for newcomers Channel to the tune of 148 points led by recruits Mitch Smith and Nick Leitch with support from Matthew Lister, Adam Palfreyman and Michael Walsh as they went on a goal scoring spree which Channel could not counter although James McQueen, Neil Hansson, Nathan Purdon, Sean McGuire and Matthew Bird tried hard.
University’s recruits were to the fore when after an even first quarter with St.Virgils at New Town the visitors were too accomplished for the home team with Josh Nelson, Matt Riseley and Mav Matuzek creating havoc backed by Cameron Burgess, John Morey, Charles Jones and Jim Dunham they peppered the goals winning by 104 points. Best for St.Virgils were Michael Grandin, Nick Davey, Marcus Parker, Sam Unsworth and Zac Batchelor.
