After 11 years running the Supporters Group, I have decided to “hang up the boots” so this will be my final newsletter (I will send the Annual Report to members who have requested it when it becomes available) and I would like to take the opportunity to thank you all for your support over the years.  I would also like to thank all of those people who have assisted me during this time, in particular, Phil Guest for his work with the web site , Bill Trethewie for his assistance in organising the annual lunch and to Bill, Phil, Glenn Miller and John Kenny for conducting the weekly spins when I haven’t been able to attend.

All the best for the future.

Peter (Sos) Kelly

Uni will meet DOSA in the preliminary final after holding off OHA in the first semi final played under lights at Richmond.  In a low scoring encounter Uni had the edge throughout the game, leading by two goals at quarter time which they increased to 21 points at half time, whioch was to be the biggest margin of the game.

OHA fought back in the third quarter to whittle down the margin to 11 points entering the final quarter which proved to be a dogged affair with Uni prevailing by 16 points at the final siren.

Defenders Dean Willcock and Shaun Suitor, with midfielders Nicko Aird and Paul Brooks and onballers Sam Maguire and Will Owens were best for Uni.

Uni will meet Hutchins in the Old Scholars Football Association grand final at North Hobart after scoring a hard fought win over DOSA in the preliminary final at Queen borough on Saturday.

Little separated the teams throughout the gameas they both strived for victory.  However, Uni, with its tall players relishing the excellent conditions for high marking and its runners creating havoc, was able to hold out DOSA.

DOSA kicked the first four goals before Uni answered with four of its own and went to the first break with a one point lead.  Uni had the better of DOSA in the second quarter, adding a further five goals while keeping DOSA to three gaols to set up a 15 point lead at the main break.

After half time DOSA came out full of running, piling on six goals to Uni’s three to take a three point lead into the final quarter.  The last term was a thrilling encounter as each team tried to gain the ascendancy.  However, bothteams were inaccurate at goal, with only three goals scored from 14 scoring shots as Uni hung on to win by six points.

Uni’s Travis Little was a thorn in DOSA’s side all day with his attack on the ball, while midfielders Chris Carins, Nicko Aird and Paul Brooks, with forwards Charles Jones and Gavin Shaw, were outstanding.

Hutchins hung tough early before demolishing Uni at North Hobart Oval to win its fourth OSAFA premiership in seven seasons.  To achive that, the Beans had to put down a Uni fightback to get within seven points early in the third quarter after they had trailed by seven goals at one stage.

Hutchins ran away in the last quarter, piling on 8.5 to four points to win easily by 77 points.  Uni was unfortunate to lose ruckman Mick Gowans (punctured lung) and Travis Little (knee) from its victorious preliminary final side and simply ran out of guns in the latter stages of the game.

The game had more than its share of fiery moments, one of which resulted in Matthew Drury being sent off for charging Shaun Suitor and another for Hutchins teammate Matthew Lister for striking Sam Bouwman.
